Recently on TWITTER, I posed the question about “what if” APPLE were to enter the Marine Electronics industry. Just a random thought after realizing how far I’ve come personally with APPLE products (#iminlove), and the gap left wide open by today’s electronics manufacturers.
Please don’t get me wrong, I am in NO WAY, bashing Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, NAVICO, or Fishing Hot Spots. They each have their following, and some great elements that make them who they are respectfully. Buy, what if…….
If Apple were to enter the Marine Electronic/Sonar/Side Imaging/Structure Scanning (taking a deep breathe now) industry, we could:
- download maps, data from iTunes (plug for FishWrench, since this was his idea)
- use MobileMe to share/store data
- find our stuff when stolen (GPS feature enabled of course)
- Sync data from iPhone, iPad, or iMac
- ……You get the idea?
Sure, APPLE would have a steep hill to climb as far as a learning curve and entry to market, but just think of the possibilities!
If APPLE was in the R&D stages of a consumer marine electronic, what would you want it to do?
